Q What is NAIST?
A NAIST stands for Nara Institute of Science and Technology.
It is a national university located in Takayama-cho, Ikoma City in Nara Prefecture, consisting of graduate schools. As a core institution of the Kansai Science City, NAIST is engaged in research and education of advanced information technology in the fields of information science, biological sciences, and materials science.
Q Why does NAIST only have graduate schools?
A Traditional universities have adopted systematic methods of research and education based on academic departments. For future researchers who will conduct R&D activities in the most advanced areas such as information science, bioscience and materials science, however, it is important to provide postgraduate education with a flexible curriculum. In order to meet such educational and organizational needs, the graduate-school-only university was established.
