■Visit to the Philippines (January 26 – 28, 2015)

A NAIST delegation, consisting of GSBS professors and the Director of Center for International Relations (CIR), Tsutomu Hashida, visited Ateneo de Manila University to discuss and pursue further research and education collaboration.

■Visit to China (March 20 – 27, 2015)

CIR Director Tsutomu Hashida attended the Study in Japan Fair in Beijing and, following this, he attended APAIE to meet with NAIST’s international partner institution representatives to reconfirm educational aims and develop existing ties.

■Visit to the USA (May 25 – 30, 2015)

A delegation from NAIST headed by Director of the Division for Global Education (DGE, formerly CIR) Tsutomu Hashida attended the NAFSA 2015 Conference & Expo in Boston to strengthen relationships with new and current partner institutions. Following NAFSA, the NAIST delegation visited Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a meeting with Ms. Christine Pilvavage, Program Manager for Japan, to discuss student programs such as international internships.

■Visit to UC Davis (July 15 – 17, 2015)

DGE Director Sachi Ando visited UC Davis to discuss this year’s faculty development program.

■Visit to Indonesia (August 3 – 7, 2015)

A NAIST delegation with DGE Director Tsutomu Hashida visited Gadjah Mada University (Yogyakarta and Jakarta campuses) in Indonesia.

■Visit to Indonesia (September 8 – 13, 2015)

A NAIST delegation led by President Ogasawara visited Bogor Agricultural University, University of Indonesia, and Gadjah Mada University (Yogyakarta and Jakarta campuses). At Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, a NAIST-Indonesia Alumni meeting was held on September 11. The delegation, including DGE Director Sachi Ando, introduced NAIST to current Gadjah Mada University students.

■Visit to the Philippines (October 22 – 25, 2015)

A NAIST delegation, consisted of GSIS Professor Hirokazu Kato, GSBS Professors Naoyuki Inagaki and Mitsuhiro Aida, GSMS Professor Hisao Yanagi, and DGE Director Sachi Ando, visited Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the Philippines Diliman for further collaborations in education and research.

■Visit to Macedonia and France (November 8 – 16, 2015)

GSIS Professor Michiko Inoue, DGE Director Tsutomu Hashida and DGE International Activities Coordinator Junko Iwatsuki visited the University of Information Science and Technology “St. Paul the Apostle”(UIST) in Macedonia to discuss the terms and conditions of a Memorandum of Understanding. The delegates then visited University of Pierre and Marie CURIE (UPMC) in France to introduce NAIST’s Project Manager and Communication Manager in charge of the Erasmus Mundas TEAM consortium, holding a detailed meeting concerning the program and the opportunities available to NAIST’s faculty, staff, and students.

■Visit to Thailand (December 12 – 16, 2015)

A NAIST delegation, including GSIS Professor Kenichi Matsumoto, DGE Director Tsutomu Hashida, International Student Affairs Section Chief Head Tadashi Nakano, and our Thai students, participated in the Study in Japan Fair hosted by JASSO. Following the event, the delegates visited Kasetsart University and Chulalongkorn University for meetings to introduce NAIST to university students.

■Visit to Malaysia (December 17 – 22, 2015)

A NAIST delegation, including GSIS Professor Michiko Inoue, GSMS Professor Yukiharu Uraoka, and DGE Director Sachi Ando, visited Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology and the University of Malaya (Faculty of Science). After this, NAIST participated in the JASSO Education Fair with a booth in Kuala Lumpur on December 19-20. The delegates visited the JASSO Malaysia Office followed by a visit to the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia.

■Visit to the USA (January 11 – 18, 2016)

Advisor to the President, Professor Kaz Shiozaki, DGE Director Sachi Ando, and DGE International Activities Coordinator Junko Iwatsuki visited University of Texas, Arlington on January 12 and University of Texas, Austin on January 13, followed by a visit to National Science Foundation (NSF) in Arlington V.A. on January 14 to discuss funding for student and scholar mobility, and possible programs for staff and faculty development. On January 15, the delegates visited the JSPS Washington D.C. office and informed the office of NAIST’s recent achievements and activities, discussing the current status and trends in both Japan and US research and education in higher education. On the last day, the delegates visited the National Institute of Health (NIH) to hold a meeting.

■Visit to Indonesia (January 18 – 22, 2016)

A NAIST delegation, including Vice President/Executive Director Mikio Kataoka and DGE Director Tsutomu Hashida, visited Universitas Gadjah Mada, in Yogyakarta on January 19 to hold a meeting with the university administration followed by a meeting with the Faculty of Engineering. On the next day, the delegates visited the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia.

■Visit to Singapore (January 27 – 31, 2016)

DGE Director Sachi Ando visited Singapore. After a meeting with the European Union Delegation to Singapore to introduce NAIST activities and reconfirm the delegation’s goals for the surrounding countries, the director then visited A*Star’s Institute of High Performance Computing, International Relation and Partnerships office, and the Joint Council Office to introduce NAIST followed by an exchange of information concerning the trends in education and research in higher education in Singapore and Japan. She then visited National University of Singapore’s Office of the Vice President, University & Global Relations and the Nanyang Technological University Office of International Affairs to hold meetings to discuss possible educational collaboration.

■Visit to EU (February 15 – 20, 2016)

DGE Director Tsutomu Hashida visited the European Commission in Brussels, the European Parliament, the Mission of Japan to the European Union, and Delft University of Technology, briefing them of NAIST’s activities and exploring the current state and trends of research and education in higher education in both Japan and the EU.

■Visit to Australia (February 24 – March 5, 2016)

DGE Director Sachi Ando visited Macquarie University, the University of Technology Sydney and La Trobe University in Sydney to discuss possibilities of a staff development program for NAIST. On March 1-4, joined by DGE International Activities Coordinator Junko Iwatsuki and International Affairs section staff Nao Terada and Haruyo Nomura, the director attended the APAIE Conference and Exhibition 2016 in Melbourne. They visited the following partner / non-partner institution booths and exchanged information concerning future academic/student exchange programs:

■Visit to Indonesia (March 6 – 7, 2016)

GSBS Professor Kawaichi, and DGE Director Tsutomu Hashida, visited Bogor Agriculture University (IPB) to discuss and finalize the terms and conditions for establishing its first overseas office, the NAIST-Indonesia Office.
