Visit to Indonesia

A NAIST delegation visited Indonesia from October 8th to 9th, 2017.

Study in Japan Fair (Jakarta)

On October 8th, a NAIST delegation took part in the Study in Japan Fair in Jakarta to promote NAIST. This was the first time our institute participated as the NAIST Indonesia Office, which is the first overseas educational collaboration site established in Bogor last April. The NAIST booth was represented by Prof. Masashi Kawaichi (Director, Division for Educational Development, and Director, NAIST Indonesia Office) and Prof. Shun Hirota (Advisor to the President on international affairs) as well as NAIST alumni, Dr. Muchdar Davis (NAIST Indonesia Office), Dr. Ika Mayasari (Lecturer, Veterinary Department, Bogor Agricultural University) and Prof. Arry Yanuar (Vice Dean, Pharmacy Department, the University of Indonesia).
This event was organized by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) to actively recruit international students who are interested in studying in Japan. This was a bustling one-day event in Balai Sidang Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) where 48 universities, 5 vocational colleges and 20 Japanese language schools were represented, and over 3,500 visitors came that day. More than 100 students visited the NAIST booth to ask various questions regarding admission, course studies and research. The NAIST Indonesia Office was introduced as the contact point for inquiries within Indonesia.

Visit to Bogor Agricultural University and the University of Indonesia

On the next day, the NAIST professors visited Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) and the University of Indonesia (UI), both of which are NAIST overseas partner institutions. Firstly, they visited IPB and met with the faculty to discuss educational collaboration such as student exchange, and then had a session to introduce NAIST and the Graduate School of Materials Science, and also to explain how IPB students may apply for internships at NAIST.

Meeting with UI faculty

In the afternoon, the NAIST professors visited UI (Depok Campus) and met Prof. Abdul Haris (Dean of Pharmacy Department), Prof. Arry Yanuar (Vice Dean), and Mr. Tito Latif Indra (Director for International Collaboration) to discuss academic exchange. They also had a session to introduce NAIST and the Graduate School of Materials Science, and also to explain available scholarships at NAIST.

These visits were an excellent opportunity for NAIST to introduce the NAIST Indonesia Office to further collaboration with Indonesian alumni who serve as faculty members in Indonesian research universities.
