Ambassador of the Designate of the European Union to Japan visited to NAIST(2022/12/13)

Mr. Jean-Eric Paquet, Ambassador of the Designate of the European Union (EU) to Japan visited to NAIST on December 13, 2022.

First, the group visited the Digital Green Innovation Center (CDG), where Director Taku Demura explained the details of fusion research and education promoted by CDG. After that, Ambassador Paquet introduced EU policies on science and technology, research innovation, etc. Faculty members and doctoral students gathered in the CDG Commons, the venue of the event, and actively exchanged opinions in the relaxed atmosphere of the open space.

The group then visited the Digital Science Center (DSC) and the Deputy Director Satoshi Nakamura introduced DSC's philosophy and the details of its education and research. Afterwards, Prof. Hiroharu Ajiro and Assoc. Prof. Tomoyuki Miyao explained research projects being conducted at the center and the equipment being used. Assist. Prof. Hikaru Sasaki then demonstrated an experimental robot, with Ambassador Paquet also experiencing operating the robot.

Finally, the group greeted President Kazuhiro Shiozaki and exchanged commemorative gifts, where expectations of future EU and NAIST exchanges were expressed.

It is expected that this visit will further stimulate educational and research collaboration between EU and NAIST.
