Ministry of Education, Culture,
Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho) provides scholarships
to students from abroad.
Research Student (Monbukagakusho Scholarship)
Eligibility
Under the age of 35
University/college graduate
Monthly allowance
172,000 yen (As of 2006)
Tuition, entrance fee, examination fee
Free
Japanese language training
6 months for students
who are not proficient in Japanese
(only for embassy recommendation students)
There are three types of selections.
If you want to be selected as a Monbukagakusho scholarship student,
you must follow one of the following procedures.
Embassy
recommendation
Applications are made through the Japanese
embassy or consulate overseas in cooperation with the local government.
Recruitment is made once a year in spring. However, you are encouraged
to check with the Japanese embassy in your country because recruiting
methods differ in each country.
University
recommendation
Japanese universities recommend overseas
students to the Monbukagakusho through exchanges between overseas
universities.
Domestic
adoption
Privately-financed students already studying
in Japan may apply for the Monbukagakusho scholarship through their
attending universities.
