Monbukagakusho (Japanese
Government) Scholarship System

| Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho) provides scholarships to students from abroad. |

| There are three types of selections. If you want to be selected as a Monbukagakusho scholarship student, you must follow one of the following procedures. | |
 Embassy

| Applications are made through the Japanese embassy or consulate overseas in cooperation with the local government. Recruitment is made once a year in spring. However, you are encouraged to check with the Japanese embassy in your country because recruiting methods differ in each country. | |
| University
recommendation |
|
| Japanese universities recommend overseas students to the Monbukagakusho through exchanges between overseas universities. | |
| Domestic
adoption |
|
| Privately-financed students already studying in Japan may apply for the Monbukagakusho scholarship through their attending universities. | |
