Japan has actively adopted innovative energy-saving technologies and anti-pollution technologies, leading to the development of a highly energy efficient society. Today, one of the key objectives of the nation's policies is to develop an even more environmentally-friendly society through the broad use of information communications technology. Moreover, Japan is also being called upon to adopt new measures tackling environmental issues pertaining to all international societies, such as conservation of the global environment and sustainable resource use. The discussion at this forum will focus on the direction of technologies and policies required to achieve the "development of an environmentally-conscious society through advanced scientific technology."
