Division for Research Strategy
In 1994, or three years later of its foundation, NAIST established the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology for improving evidence-based research activities and publicizing its achievements. In 2010, the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology was reorganized as the Center for Frontier Science and Technology which consists of the Division of Scientific Research and the Department for Interdisciplinary Frontier Research , aiming to execute comprehensive investigation and planning on research strategy and systematic supports for interdisciplinary research activities.
In 2013, following NAIST’s selection by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) as a recipient for support as part of MEXT’s Program for Promoting the Enhancement of Research Universities, the Division of Research Strategy was established by expanding the Division of Scientific Research and University Research Administrators (URAs) were then assigned. Moreover, NAIST was selected again as an eligible university for the Top Global Project by MEXT in 2014 and reformed the Center for Frontier Science and Technology into the Division for Research Strategy in 2015.
Currently, the Division for Research Strategy surveys research trends in advanced science and technology in Japan and around the world, while also exploring new research fields that anticipate next-generation science and technology. Consisting of two divisions, the Department for Innovative Research that carries out strategic research management and the Department for Interdisciplinary Frontier Research that promotes exchanges of researchers in diverse fields in pursuit of excellent research, the Center for Frontier Science and Technology is working to invigorate and advance NAIST’s research activities.
