The Consul General of France in Kyoto, Mr. Philippe Janvier-Kamiyama, and 'his Secretary, Mr. Hiroshi Kitagawa visited NAIST on Monday, March 8. They were welcomed by President Isogai and Executive Director Sawada, and both parties exchanged information and opinions for the future promotion of research and student exchanges. Afterwards, the visitors were given a tour of the Internet Engineering Laboratory in the Graduate School of Information Science, and an overview of the lab's current research by Professor Yamaguchi. Mr. Gregory Blanc, a French doctoral student in the lab, described his experiences and research at NAIST. The visitors also toured the Laboratory of Cell Biotechnology in the Graduate School of Biological Sciences, where Professor Takagi introduced his current research to them. 2010-03-11T00:00:00Mr. Worin Sukcharoen from the Royal Thai Embassy, Tokyo visit NAIST (2010/2/9)

Mr. Worin Sukcharoen, Minister -Counselor (Education), from the Royal Thai Embassy, Tokyo visited NAIST on February 9. Mr. Sukcharoen is in charge of education on behalf of the Thai Government for both Thai students in Japan and prospective students in Thailand who hope to study in Japan. The objective of his visit was to exchange opinions on the future acceptance of students from Thailand. An explanation of the COE program in the Graduate School of Biological Sciences was also provided to Mr. Sukcharoen by Dean Maki and Prof. Hashimoto. Following this, a tour of each Graduate School was conducted and lastly, a meeting was held with students from Thailand. President Isogai, accompanied by Dean Maki, Vice Dean Kawaichi and Professor Smith of the Graduate School of Biological Sciences, together with three administrative officers, visited the University of California, Davis (UC Davis) from February 3 to 5. NAIST concluded an institution-level academic exchange agreement with UC Davis in April 2003, and the two universities have continued to promote exchanges in various fields. NAIST actively offers faculty and students research and study opportunities at UC Davis. The delegation visited Chancellor Linda Katehi, Vice Provost William Lacy, Prof. Kenneth Burtis (Dean of the College of Biological Sciences), Prof. Bruce White (Dean of the College of Engineering), Prof. Winston Ko (Dean of the College of Letters and Science), and Dr. Dennis Pendleton (Dean of UC Davis Extension), with the purpose of strengthening international relationships and encouraging future academic exchanges. Dr. Isogai also invited Japanese researchers and former NAIST students at UC Davis to gather for informal discussions over dinner. The delegation also visited Dr. Takeda, Director of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science San Francisco Office, and Dr. Tanimoto, Executive Director of Osaka University San Francisco Center for Education and Research, to exchange information about diverse international activities. 2010-02-12T00:00:00International Friendly Meeting for Fiscal 2009(2010/1/14)

International Friendly Meeting was held at Millennium Hall of NAIST on Thursday, January 14. This meeting is an annual event which started in fiscal 1995 in order to promote an interaction between president and faculty members, international students and researchers, tutors, and staff members from several international exchange foundations. This year as many as 152 people participated including families of international students and researchers. President Akira Isogai delivered opening remarks at the beginning of the meeting which was followed with a traditional Mongolian dance by Chinese student, a singing performance by a group of Filipino students, and a bingo game. The participants had pleasant conversation with each other and had a great time all through the meeting in a friendly atmosphere. International students especially treasured this opportunity to deepen a relationship with people from within and outside. 2010-01-22T00:00:00
