■NAIST Delegates Visit to Thailand

■“Study in Japan Fair”
As part of NAIST’s goal to further expand our international student population, participating in study-abroad fairs is an essential recruiting activity. Prof. Jun Ohta (Graduate School of Materials Science), Associate Prof. Kohei Ichikawa (Graduate School of Materials Science), DGE Director Sachi Ando, Shingo Saito (Chief Officer of the International Students Section), and two Thai students (Nalinthip Chanthaset and Jirayus Jiarpakdee) from NAIST participated in JASSO’s “Study in Japan Fair” that was held in central Bangkok on August 28, 2016. A former NAIST internship student from Thailand, Thanet Pakpuwadon, also joined our booth. According to JASSO, a total of 3,426 people attended this year’s fair. At the information booth, more than 80 attendees who were interested in science and technology graduate schools discussed possibilities for their education with NAIST representatives and received detailed information concerning our educational programs, research activities, scholarships, student life at NAIST, and more.

As of August 1, 2016, there are 214 international students at NAIST, and 27 of them are from Thailand. Among these Thai students, there are 16 Kasetsart University and 6 Chulalongkorn University alumni. There is a long, active history of research and education collaboration between our faculty members and faculty members and researchers from these universities. This visit is expected to further expand educational and research opportunities for students and faculty members.
