English Language Education(Introduction

To improve the English language skills of graduate students, NAIST not only provides English language education by international faculty but utilizes qualifying and licensing examinations for English skills. NAIST aims to enable its graduate students to acquire English skills sufficient for practical use (i.e., TOEIC score: 650 or higher at the completion of the master’s course, and 750 or higher at the completion of the doctoral course). Furthermore, NAIST, by promoting studies abroad for graduate students to foster their global view, strives to encourage 10% or more of its graduate students to study abroad with credits granted. NAIST also offers the opportunity for students to consult with English-language experts on their on their research papers via their professors and the NAIST English Consultation Service (NECS).

Japanese Language / Japanese Culture Education

NAIST puts efforts into employment support (career support) for international students in Japan. It is essential to provide them with Japanese language skills and education about Japanese culture. Therefore, NAIST offers classes in English corresponding to a wide range of Japanese classes. Moreover, in academic year 2018, NAIST became a partner university with Ryukoku University and concluded an agreement on credit transfer with the Graduate School of Science and Technology of Ryukoku University. Thus, NAIST made it possible for international students to learn a wider range of Japanese culture through the Japanese Experience Program in Kyoto (JEP Kyoto) by Ryukoku University through which they can take subjects in English on Japanese history, economics, politics, culture, and social studies.
