At the Department for Innovative Research, we work together with the IR office of the Center for Strategy and Planning to examine policies and research trends in the cutting-edge fields of science and technology in Japan and other countries, opening new research areas as well as considering new directions for the university’s research in order to meet the needs of society. To achieve this, we try to understand the features and outcomes of the research conducted at the University and carry out research management to produce research outcomes in a strategic manner. Moreover, the Future Project Laboratories and International Collaborative Laboratories are also under the Department as part of the MEXT Program for Promoting the Enhancement of Research Universities, working on research which will become the bearer of the University’s next generation.
The Department for Interdisciplinary Frontier Research promotes inter-disciplinary collaboration and exchange between researchers in different academic fields, working systematically as an organization to promote interdisciplinary frontier research by outstanding researchers. A research management system that allows for the evaluation and assessment of research has also been put in place, such as the setting up of an evaluation committee and the managing of research progress, so as to support the activities of the department.
