2024/02/05

NAIST's 2023 Overseas Staff Development Training Program debriefing session was held on January 30th, with 31 attendees who listened to the participants' experiences.

The Overseas Staff Development Training Program was established in 2007 to organizationally promote globalization of graduate school education. Both administrative and technical staff are offered the opportunity to experience overseas universities in order to develop knowledge and expertise in international education activities and improve general planning skills.

This year two administrative staff members participated in a program with Hawaii Tokai International College (HTIC) from November 29th to December 9th. During the training program, the participants attended lectures on business English and diversity in Hawaii, and also interviewed staff from local universities on topics they had set themselves.

In the debriefing session, trainees shared the differences between NAIST and universities in Hawaii in terms of staff recruitment and research support, which was the topic of the trainees' research. Following this, President Kazuhiro Shiozaki and a number of administrative staff members asked questions about intercultural communication and what impressed the participants about the other universities.

Finally, the trainees encouraged those thinking about taking part in the next program to "Please give it a try without worrying about your English ability". We will continue our efforts to develop human resources who can work globally through practical training.
