I have used this research grant mainly to purchase experimental equipment and instruments. The most important piece of equipment is a custom-made puncher for processing metals. Then we bought a controller to control the reaction of the puncher. We were also able to purchase other equipment such as lights, molds, and online conferencing equipment. These also contributed to the research progress of the Ph.D. student I supervise.
I was glad that this research grant was flexible in its use. Although I had to change several research plans due to the coronal event, I was able to use the grant much more freely than with other research grants.
For example, when a conference I was planning to attend had to be held online instead of on-site, I would not even be able to attend the conference if I did not have the necessary equipment. The fact that the use of the equipment was not restricted and could be changed at will was very helpful.
If possible, it would be better if the support period were longer. In this case, the graduate student working with me worked very hard on the research and we were able to publish a paper in two years, but I think sometimes it takes a long time to produce a coherent result.
