Using Start-up Research Funds
Shoko Wakamiya, Associate Professor, Social Computing Laboratory (Aramaki Lab), Information Science Division
I spent three years as a postdoctoral researcher from December 2015, followed by a specially appointed assistant professor position, and then arrived as an associate professor in April 2020. Since I had to move to a new lab when I arrived, I was able to use this research grant to set up my own lab. I had originally planned to use it also for travel expenses to academic conferences, but the corona disaster made it unusable, so I used it to purchase equipment.
This was a great help because I could not contribute from other research funds such as the Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research. We were also able to buy books and other things for research.
