Using Childcare Support for Business Trips

Assistant Professor Shiori Aki, Plant Growth Regulation Laboratory, Division of Biological Science (Umeda Lab.)

I used the service many times before the Corona disaster. I have fond memories of taking my child, who was a preschooler at the time, to academic conferences and meetings. Although there were other researchers who brought their children, I was envious of this system, which was unique to our university and covered almost all expenses except meals, whether I brought my child to the conference or arranged for child care myself. Even if you leave your child at home for a business trip, the amount of luggage you have to prepare is the same, and it is hard for parents to take care of their grandchildren for days.
I think this is a good system for the next generation, because I believe that the number of people who cannot leave their children at home without their working parents taking a leave of absence, as in my case, will increase in the future.
As for improvements, there have been times when I have not been able to find a place to leave my child (although the Equality Office eventually found one for me), which has been very annoying. When I try to arrange childcare by myself, the most difficult and time-consuming thing is finding a place to leave the child, so I would appreciate it if you could help me.
