Using Temporary Childcare Services

Associate Professor Katsuhito Sudoh, Angmented Human Communication Laboratory(Nakamura Lab.), Information Science

I learned about this service through a university-wide email I received in April 2017, and I have been using it every time since the open campus in November. It takes almost an hour to get from my home in Osaka to the university, but my child doesn't mind, so we take the train together every time. Once we arrive at the university, my child stays in the lab until it is time to drop him off, and after dropping him off, he returns to the lab and stays there until it is time to go home.

Although I share some of the responsibility for getting the children to and from the daycare center, my wife does most of the childcare. When my wife has to take care of her children on weekends, I take care of them during that time, but this is not possible during the open campus. I can bring my child to the university without much trouble, and fortunately there is no charge for temporary childcare during the open campus, so I can take advantage of this service. I believe that bringing my child to the office gives me a chance to meet Dr. Nakamura and the students.

I am grateful for the temporary childcare service because the number of children in my care is not so large, and I feel that I am being taken care of a lot. The pick-up and drop-off times are the same for other parents, so I have met teachers I know, such as Mr. Hata (Software Engineering), Mr. Miyao (Data-driven Chemistry), and Mr. Suzuki (Intelligent Communication). I think everyone is making good use of it.
