Mentor Assignment for Newly Hired Women Researchers

■Summary of the system
Mentors are assigned to newly hired women researchers upon request.

■Content
・Mentors are, in principle, faculty members in the same field as the newly hired female researcher (mentee), but in different laboratories (regardless of gender, as long as they understand gender equality activities).
・The Gender Equality Office will listen to the wishes of the mentees (e.g. what kind of career and experience they would like to have, who they would like to connect with, etc.) and match them with a mentor.
・Mentoring activities will continue for one year after the mentee is hired.
・Mentors will strive to develop, motivate, and promote the growth of mentees by helping them improve their research and teaching skills, develop their careers, and facilitate interpersonal relationships in the workplace.
・The Gender Equality Office will support mentoring activities by consulting with mentees/mentors as needed.
・Mentors shall submit questionnaires to the Gender Equality Office six months after the start of the mentoring activities and at the end of the mentoring period.
・Mentors will submit a Mentor Questionnaire to the Gender Equality Office at the end of the mentoring period.
・Mentors are required to answer the mentors' questions in accordance with the handbook "Guidelines for Mentors of WLB Consultation Service - Basic Knowledge on How to Listen to Consultations" (March 2012), paying attention to how to listen to consultations and confidentiality obligations.
