Identifying or at least categorizing people is necessary for personalized assistance/service. Instead of using popular biometrics (e.g. face, fingerprint, iris), we explore a new unobtrusive way for identification: remote identification based on surveillance cameras and/or smartphone sensors. Surveillance camera based identification uses visual data, and it relies on a key component called person re-identification (based on body appearance).
