The Division for Industry-Government-Academia Collaboration was established to promote collaboration with private corporations and government agencies through activities such as joint research, commissioned research, and technology transfer, which form an integral aspect of NAIST’s mission and contribute to the university’s outstanding achievements. The Division also handles matters such as patents and licenses. NAIST has the highest income from patents per faculty member of any Japanese university, obtained by licensing technology transfers to private companies in diverse areas, and is also creating new university ventures to exploit research achievements. The University intends to engage in the further promotion of international industry-government-academia collaboration, with particular emphasis on the training of personnel capable of playing an active role in the international community, as one of the university’s founding objectives.
