9月25日（金）、ミレニアムホールにおいて学位記授与式を挙行しました。
授与式では、塩﨑一裕学長が修了生に学位記を手渡し、門出を祝して英語で式辞を述べられた後、モンテ・カセム国際教養大学長より祝辞を賜りました。
また、式典の模様をインターネットによりリアルタイムで配信するほか、式典終了後の会場を記念撮影のために開放しており、修了生たちは和やかな雰囲気のもと歓談し、喜びを分かち合いました。

Fall 2026 - President's Commencement Address
Parents and families, our distinguished faculty and dedicated staff, I am honored to join you today in congratulating the members of this graduating class. Just moments ago, I had the privilege of conferring 39 doctoral degrees and 26 master's degrees.
First and foremost, let me extend my heartfelt congratulations to each and every one of our graduates. I know the road to this day has been a long one. With enthusiasm, determination, and perseverance, you have worked toward one of life's most significant milestones you reached today. I salute you. I could not be prouder.
Today, we've gathered to celebrate your hard work and remarkable achievements. But none of you arrived here alone. You earned your degree because so many people believed in you, encouraged you, and stood beside you along the way. This is a fitting moment to thank everyone who supported you throughout your time at NAIST. To your parents and families, your friends, your professors, and the supportive staff of NAIST, please join me in giving them a well-deserved round of applause.
You are about to depart from NAIST and take your first step into the next chapter of your lives. Some of you may feel a measure of anxiety about what lies ahead. But let me remind you: the uncertainty of the future is nothing to be afraid of. It is simply a sign that your journey has only just begun. And life, as you will come to discover, is never a linear journey.
As you embark upon your career, you may be interested in an article published last December in the journal Science, titled "Recent discoveries on the acquisition of the highest levels of human performance."
The team of psychologists who authored this paper compiled the developmental histories of approximately 35,000 of the world's most outstanding active professionals, including Nobel laureates, Olympic medalists, chess grandmasters, and world-class classical composers. The researchers sought to understand how individuals who reached the pinnacle of their respective fields achieved such extraordinary success.
Their findings were remarkably consistent across a wide range of disciplines from science and athletics to mind sports such as chess. Their study found that those regarded as the most talented young people among their peers do not necessarily remain at the top later in their careers. Indeed, those who ultimately attained world-class status tended to develop slowly and unevenly in the early stages of their careers. Many went unnoticed for years, overshadowed by those around them. So, I can tell you that you don't have to be a star when you finish graduate school.
An even more striking finding was that those who would eventually become the very best in their fields rarely specialized in one narrow area from the outset. Before focusing their efforts on a particular field, they explored a broad range of academic disciplines, sports, and artistic pursuits.
An outstanding career does not necessarily blossom early, nor does it unfold in a straight and clearly visible line. Rather, it is often cultivated slowly, through exploration, through detours, and through experiences whose value may not be immediately apparent. Those around you may look upon such a period impatiently and call it nothing more than a "time of uncertainty." But you don't need to rush. What matters far more is that you absorb diverse experiences and carry their lessons forward so that you can apply them in new and unexpected circumstances.
For example, I want you to think about your experiences at NAIST. Reflecting on what you have experienced here and translating those experiences into lessons for the future will allow you to internalize them as assets you can draw upon in different situations or contexts. In educational psychology, this process is known as the "transfer of learning".
You need to translate your efforts and achievements so that you can recognize what you have gained here and apply it to the next challenge, the next opportunity, and the next stage of your career. In doing so, you will be able to draw the most out of all that you have learned at NAIST. This process of translation will help shape your career, even when your future does not unfold along a straight or predictable path.
Now, look at you. I see the beginning of countless exciting stories yet to be written. NAIST is immensely proud of its newest alumni. Today, you join a community of over 10,000 alumni who have learned here at NAIST and are striving to make this world a better place. The NAIST Alumni Association is a global network that connects our graduates. I encourage you to take an active part in this community to stay connected with NAIST. Even after you graduate, you will always be a member of the NAIST community.
We assure you that the diploma you received today will only grow in value and prestige with time, as NAIST is an institution on the move. Like each of you, NAIST will continue to change and evolve.
Again, congratulations to you all. Let me close my commencement address with my parting wish for you: May the future that awaits you be rewarding and fulfilling!

ご来場のご家族の方々、そして本学教職員の皆さんと共に、本日、修了生たちを祝福できることを光栄に存じます。つい先ほど、私は39の博士号と26の修士号を授与するという名誉ある機会をいただきました。
何よりもまず、卒業生の皆さん一人ひとりに心からのお祝いを申し上げたいと思います。この日を迎えるまでの道のりは、決して短いものではなかったでしょう。それでも皆さんは、情熱と決意、そしてたゆまぬ努力をもって、人生における最も重要な節目の一つである今日という日を迎えました。心から敬意を表します。これ以上の誇りはありません。
本日、私たちがここに集まったのは、皆さんのたゆまぬ努力と素晴らしい成果を讃えるためです。しかし、皆さんの誰一人として独力でここまでたどり着いたわけではありません。多くの人が皆さんを信じ、励まし、その道のりを共に歩んでくれたからこそ、学位を取得することができたのです。NAISTで過ごした日々を通して皆さんを支えてくださったすべての方々に、感謝の意を表すこれほどふさわしい機会はありません。ご両親やご家族、ご友人、指導教員、そして本学職員の方々に、心から感謝を込めて、皆さんと一緒に大きな拍手を送りたいと思います。
皆さんは今まさにNAISTを巣立ち、人生の新たな章へと第一歩を踏み出そうとしています。これから先に何が待ち受けているのか、少なからず不安を感じているかもしれません。しかしながら、将来の不確実性を恐れる必要はありません。それは単に、皆さんの旅が始まったばかりであるということに過ぎないのです。また、人生は決してまっすぐに進むものではないと気づくことにもなるでしょう。
これから社会に出てキャリアをスタートさせる皆さんにとって、昨年12月に学術誌Scienceに掲載された『人間の最高レベルのパフォーマンス獲得に関する最新の発見』という論文は興味深いものかもしれません。
著者である心理学者たちは、ノーベル賞受賞者、オリンピックメダリスト、チェスのグランドマスター、世界的に活躍するクラシック作曲家など、世界で活躍する最も傑出した約3万5,000人のプロフェッショナルの成長の軌跡を集めました。それぞれの分野で頂点に立った人々が、いかにしてこれほど非凡な成功を収めたのかを明らかにしようとしたのです。
この研究によって、科学やスポーツからチェスなどの頭脳競技に至るまで、幅広い分野にわたって驚くほど一貫した結果が明らかになりました。まず、同世代の中で最も才能があると見なされていた若者たちが、必ずしもトップの座を維持し続けるわけではないことが分かりました。実際、最終的に世界トップクラスの地位に到達した人々は、キャリアの初期段階で成長のスピードが比較的遅く、その歩みも一様ではない傾向がありました。その多くは、周囲よりも見劣りし、長らく注目されることもなかったのです。皆さんも、大学院を卒業する時点でスターである必要は全くありません。
さらに驚くべき発見は、最終的にそれぞれの分野のトップに立つことになる人々が、最初からその分野に絞って取り組んでいた例はほとんどなかったということです。特定の分野に注力する前に、彼らは幅広い学術分野やスポーツ、芸術活動に手をひろげ、さまざまな経験を積んでいました。
傑出したキャリアというものは、必ずしも早くから花開くわけではなく、また、直線的で明確な道筋をたどるわけでもないということです。むしろ、手探りや回り道、そして価値があるのかわからないような経験を通じて、ゆっくりと培われていくことが多いのです。そのような期間を周囲はもどかしく感じ、単なる『不確かな時期』と捉えるかもしれませんが、皆さんも焦る必要はありません。重要なのは、さまざまな経験を自分のものとして吸収し、そこから得た教訓をその後の新たな予想外の状況で活かしていくことです。
例えば、NAISTでの経験について考えてみてください。ここで経験したことを振り返り、それらを将来にも役立つ教訓の形へと翻訳することで、皆さんはここでの経験を内面化することで自分自身の財産とし、さまざまな状況や場面で生かせるようになります。教育心理学では、このようなプロセスを「学習の転移」と呼んでいます。
つまり、これまでの努力や成果を翻訳する作業をとおして、本学で何を身につけたのかを認識し、それを次の挑戦、次の機会、そしてキャリアの次のステージで活かすことが大切です。そうすることで、NAISTで学んだすべてを最大限に活かすことができるのです。将来、たとえ物事が思うように進まなくても、このように自らの体験を内面化していくプロセスが、皆さんのキャリアを形づくっていく助けとなるでしょう。
今、私には、これから皆さん一人ひとりが紡いでいく、無数の素晴らしい物語の始まりが見えます。本学は、新たな修了生たちを心から誇りに感じています。今日、皆さんは、同じく本学で学び、この世界をより良くするために尽力している1万人以上の修了生からなるコミュニティの一員となるのです。NAIST同窓会は、修了生をつなぐグローバルなネットワークです。ぜひこのコミュニティに積極的に参加し、本学とのつながりを大切にしてください。修了後も、皆さんはNAISTコミュニティの一員です。
今日、授与された本学の学位は、これからさらにその価値と評価を高めていくはずです。なぜなら、NAISTは発展し続ける大学だからです。皆さん一人ひとりと同じく、本学はこれからも変化し、進化し続けます。
最後に改めて、修了生の皆さんにお祝いを申し上げますとともに、皆さんの前途が実り多く、充実したものであることを祈念して、私からの式辞といたします。
