Crime
While the crime rate in Japan is low compared with many other countries, we encourage you to take appropriate precautions to protect yourself and your belongings during your stay. Please remember to lock your apartment when you leave and keep track of your personal items when you are out.
Although such cases are rare, some criminals may target foreigners due to their unfamiliarity with Japanese society, language, or customs. Staying alert and taking basic safety measures can help prevent problems.
Natural Disasters
Japan experiences various natural disasters, including typhoons, earthquakes, and tsunamis. Most of these events are not severe enough to cause significant damage. However, there have been several cases in recent years that resulted in serious damage, injuries, and disruptions. Underestimating the destructive power of natural disasters can lead to dangerous outcomes.
For earthquakes, Japan has established Earthquake Early Warning systems, which may provide advance notice before strong shaking begins. For other natural disasters, such as typhoons and heavy rainfall, please pay close attention to weather reports and official alerts to ensure you have the most up-to-date information.
