Application for Letter of Acceptance [2027 MEXT Scholarship Primary Screening through Embassy Recommendation]

Applicants who have passed the Primary Screening for the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship conducted by a Japanese Embassy or Consulate General and wish to study at NAIST should request a "Letter of Acceptance" by following the procedure below.

Request Period

From the notification of the Primary Screening results by the Japanese Embassy or Consulate General until the deadline for requesting a Letter of Acceptance.

Requests must reach NAIST.

Submission Deadline is September 1, 2026 (Japan time).

Please note that the office will be closed for the summer vacation from August 11 to August 16, 2026.

Procedure and Contact Method

Find a Prospective Supervising Professor

Before requesting a Letter of Acceptance, carefully review the information available on the NAIST websites to determine whether NAIST has a laboratory that matches your study objectives and research plan, and to identify a professor whose research field is relevant to your proposed research.

  • Review the research fields of the laboratories and choose a NAIST professor whom you wish to have as your supervisor.

Note: Please carefully consider your choice of laboratory and prospective supervising professor to ensure that their research field is consistent with your study objectives and research plan.

After Passing the Primary Screening

Please request a "Letter of Acceptance" by sending the following items by email to the International Student Affairs Section at naist-mext[at]ad.naist.jp.

A copy (PDF) of the following application documents submitted to the Japanese Embassy or Consulate General: The documents must bear the confirmation seals of the Japanese Embassy or Consulate General. Please also submit the Application Form in an editable PDF format and the Field of Study and Research Plan in Word format, in addition to the PDF copies.

  • Required Documents Other Than the Certificate of Passing and Request Form
    1. Field of Study and Research Plan
    2. Academic transcript for each academic year from the last university attended
    3. Graduation certificate or degree certificate from the last university attended
    4. Recommendation letter from the president or supervising professor of the last university attended
    5. Recommendation letter from the present employer (if currently employed and submitted to the Japanese Embassy or Consulate General)
    6. Abstracts of theses (if submitted to the Japanese Embassy or Consulate General)
    7. Certificate of language proficiency (if submitted to the Japanese Embassy or Consulate General)
    8. Medical Certificate
  • Copy of the Certificate of Passing the Primary Screening

We accept requests only from applicants who submit a certificate of passing the Primary Screening issued by a Japanese Embassy or Consulate General.

Important Notes

  • It may take some time to determine whether NAIST can accept your request. Please submit your request well in advance of the deadline.
  • The issuance of a "Letter of Acceptance" does not constitute admission to NAIST. Applicants who wish to enroll in a Master's or Doctoral course must complete the required admission procedures and pass the NAIST entrance examination.
