Ministry of Education Malaysia Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institution (TVET) Delegation Visit (June 25th, 2019)

On June 25th, 2019, a delegation led by the Director of the Instructional & Digital Learning Division (Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institution (TVET), Ministry of Education Malaysia) visited NAIST. This visit aimed to introduce research on Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) to the participants so that they use this information for the practical application of technology within vocational training and education.
After a general introduction of NAIST given by Dr. Masako Shimamoto, a Global Engagement Administrator in the Division for Global Education, the delegation toured the Interactive Media Design Laboratory (Professor Hirokazu Kato) and the Cybernetics and Reality Engineering Laboratory (Professor Kiyoshi Kiyokawa) to gain insight into NAIST groundbreaking research on VR and AR. This was followed by active discussions concerning the application and possibilities of VR/AR vocational training and education.
Through their experiences and discussions, the delegation concluded that further discussion about the domestic application of VR/AR in vocational training and education was necessary to consider to approach the establishment of a new educational system.
