Growing Interest in Graduate Study at NAIST from Indonesia

On 16 June 2026, the Strategic Initiative for Global Leadership Development (SIGL) at Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) successfully hosted the online event "Study in Japan Online Orientation by NAIST" for prospective students in Indonesia.

The event was organised as part of NAIST's ongoing efforts to strengthen international student recruitment and academic engagement in Southeast Asia. The programme introduced participants to NAIST's educational and research environment, admission procedures, scholarship opportunities, student life, and career development pathways.

The orientation featured presentations by faculty members, current international students, and staff involved in international recruitment activities. Participants also had the opportunity to learn about research opportunities across NAIST's three academic divisions and to gain first-hand perspectives on studying and living in Japan.

The event attracted considerable interest, with more than 340 registrations received from students and young professionals across Indonesia. Preliminary registration data indicated particularly strong participation from undergraduate students, who accounted for approximately half of all registrants.

The strong response to the event reflects growing interest in graduate study opportunities in Japan among Indonesian students. Through initiatives such as this orientation, NAIST aims to make information about postgraduate education more accessible and to build stronger connections with future researchers and innovators across Southeast Asia.
