Connecting Doctoral Talent and Global Companies Through Research Internship Opportunities

On July 8, 2026, the NAIST Career Services Office, in collaboration with the Institute of Science Tokyo, hosted an online Research Internship Networking Event for doctoral students.

The event aimed to provide doctoral students with opportunities to learn about research and development (R&D) careers in companies and research organizations, explore career paths that make use of their research expertise, and build connections with potential employers. To ensure that international students who are less confident in Japanese could also participate comfortably, the event featured both Japanese and English sessions.

Apple Japan, Ericsson Japan, Boeing Japan, Bosch, Hitachi, OMRON, MinebeaMitsumi, Schneider Electric, Infineon Technologies, Takasago Thermal Engineering, teamLab, Mitsubishi Electric, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Daikin Industries, Nippon Boehringer Ingelheim, Micron Memory Japan, and Shionogi & Co., Ltd.

Following a series of short company presentations, students joined Zoom breakout rooms to speak directly with company representatives. They actively asked questions about research topics, internship opportunities, R&D work, and career development.

Company representatives emphasized that, in addition to research achievements, they value problem-solving skills, communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds. The event provided students with valuable insights into how doctoral graduates contribute to industry. At the same time, participating companies had the opportunity to engage with talented doctoral students from universities across Japan and learn more about their research and expertise.
