The number of human resources in scientific fields is decreasing, not only for men and women, and the percentage of women among them is low. I think it is a waste that there are so few female researchers. There should be no reason why women should be at a disadvantage in the field of research, since it is mainly brain work. First of all, the proportion of women in other countries is not as low as in Japan, and I think this has a very negative effect on Japan's overall research capability.
However, I am not saying that I expect something different from female researchers than from male researchers. As I always say, I would like to say to all faculty members, "It's not interesting unless you take on new challenges. I believe that gender has nothing to do with accepting challenges.
The annual symposium held jointly by the Graduate School and the Equal Opportunity Office is an official initiative as an "ikuboss. I think it is one of the educational activities to spread awareness of what managers need to consider in order to create a work environment that can support both work and family life.
As for the usual efforts for managers, subordinates are not limited to women, but also apply to men. And what and how to take into account when balancing work and family life differs from person to person. For example, the situation they face varies depending on whether they have a spouse, children, or are taking care of their parents, and so on. Therefore, I think the most important thing for managers is to always be aware of the situation of their subordinates. They should also pay attention to the work environment when they receive a pregnancy report, such as whether the laboratory work involves handling drugs, and if so, whether the academic assistant system should be used.
