NAIST graduate selected as one of "42 Outstanding Researchers Engaged in Research to Improve Indonesia". (February 21, 2012)

On February 21, 2012, the national newspaper Media Indonesia reported that Graduate School of Information Science and Technology graduate Dr. Retno Supriyanti was selected as one of "42 Outstanding Researchers Engaged in Research to Improve Indonesia" in her home country.
Dr. Supriyanti was involved in the development of a cataract screening system while she was a graduate student at NAIST. (Currently, the university has applied to patent "the Cataract Examination Device, Cataract Examination Method and the Cataract Assessment Program" WO/2009/102064).
Dr. Supriyanti informed NAIST that not only her research but also NAIST was featured in most Indonesian national and local newspapers, TV and radio programs.

The First Lady Ani Bambang Yudoyono, April 23, 2012 gave the award to the 75 most inspiring women of 2012, one of which is Dr. Eng Retno Supriyanti for the category of Education and Science.
For additional information that Kartini is hailed as Indonesia's first feminist.
April 21, the day of her birth, is celebrated as "Hari Ibu Kartini"(Kartini Day). She is seen as the symbol of Indonesian women's emancipation.
